Fisk University. Formed within months of the end of the American Civil War, Fisk served former slaves who had been emancipated and desired an education. The tradition of excellence at Fisk has developed out of a history marked by struggle and uncertainty, and from its earliest days, Fisk has played a leadership role in the education of African–Americans.
